Calendar Door–The Family Info Hub

In my last post, I mentioned I had to paint my door before school started and this is why…it is now the information hub for my family.   My summertime washi tape calendars worked out so well, I decided it needed to be more than just a temporary poster board in the hallway.

So I painted the garage entry door into the house black, which I’ve been wanting to do since I added the Wall of Awesomeness.  Then I added a removable vinyl calendar so we can be reminded of that day’s events as we walk out the door.  I think it will be especially helpful as an added communication system for me and the hubs.  So when I forget to tell him something or he forgets to tell me something, we’ll see it on our way out the door.  Or if we plain just forget, it’s nice to have a little reminder.

Thought about chalkboard paint, but who wants to risk chalk dust on their clothes when they walk out the door? Thought about putting it on the wall, but I like the idea of it being in our face before we leave the house. Plus, the door is magnetic so we can also post a note for any other reminders.

I used a little, galvanized bin from the dollar section at Target to keep the dry erase markers handy for updates.

Then the calendar was looking a little lost and lonely, so I added some alphabet magnets to put up a couple fun messages for everyone.

Although I did have a mini wrestling match with the vinyl calendar when I was putting it up, it was a simple and inexpensive little project that I hope will keep us on track around here.
