Day 15: Rock Star Goody Bag

When I heard my daughter would have a sub for the first six weeks of school, I was a bit skeptical.  In the end, we could not have asked for a better teacher to kick off the year!  The kids absolutely adored him.  They really loved the rock star theme he incorporated into the class.  It made everything much more fun and exciting.

Last Friday, he handed the class back over to the permanent teacher.  So on Thursday, we followed his rock star theme and thanked him with treats, a rock star goody bag and of course handmade and heartfelt cards from the kids.

Inside the bag

rock candy suckers, Pop Rocks, sunglasses, an inflatable guitar, an echo mike and chocolate (my daughter told me he likes chocolate and blue, hence all the blue)

My first thought was to make a rock candy “bouquet,” then it occurred to me to keep them in their package and just fold card stock over the existing label.  I have limited graphic skills, so I used Word to create the label with some clipart.

I let my daughter go crazy with some star stickers to embellish the microphone a bit.  We also wrote his name on it with a metallic paint pen.

I found these rock star cupcake toppers and matching liners at Michael’s about three hours before the “party”.  Nothing like last minute.  Don’t ya just love it when you’re looking for something and you actually find it - especially when you are running against the clock?!  I literally pulled the last batch of cupcakes out of the oven 15 minutes before I was supposed to be there. Hmm, maybe I should work on my time management skills.

I hope he knows how much the kids and parents appreciated his rock star teaching! Any class would be lucky to have him as a teacher and I’m glad we were one of them. Thanks to all the Rock Star teachers out there!

  1. Aw, that's such a nice gift! I'm sure he really appreciated it. I have a soft spot for substitute teachers. My senior year of high school I had a sub for the first month of school in my science class and we all loved her. I was always used to subs who just sat there while we did boring worksheets, but this woman was awesome and actually taught us and engaged us. I liked my permanent teacher too, but that sub was really special.

  2. What a nice thing to do for a sub! I used to do that job, and it is totally underappreciated. YOU ROCK!

  3. Love this! This totally gives me inspiration for xmas this year since my son has a male teacher and they are harder to do gifts for! Great!
